A Woman clothed with the Sun: mantles of Our Lady, May 2016




The exhibition "A Woman clothed with the Sun: mantles of Our Lady" will present part of set of clothes the image of Our Lady, Marian liturgical vestments, and graphic pieces belonging to the Venerable Historic-Artistic Collection of the Third Order of St. Francis of Penance of São Paulo (VOTSFPCSP).

The highlight for the set of mantles, originating from donations by devotees (votive) or produced by the brotherhood with pieces embroidered with gold thread, silk, and other popular materials.

The exhibition is the result of studies conducted by Prof. Rosangela Aparecida da Conceição, M.A. in Arts, the researches " Liturgical vestments in ecclesiastical collections: study of the textile circulation in the State of São Paulo from 1750-1830", and "The Beuron Art School and the Monastery of São Bento in São Paulo: a study of decorative motifs, their contributions and implications in the decorative arts in the city of São Paulo in the early twentieth century ", held in the collection and documentation of VOTSFPCSP.

This exhibition honors Wilson de Jesus Silva, creator of the exhibition 'Iconographies Mary' canceled by the curator himself as a result of health problems. Thanks to the brothers of VOTSFPCSP, especially the Minister Sister Maria Nascimento Silva and members of the Board from 2015 to 2018 and Teacher Tabatha Nascimento, Administrator of VOTSFPCSP by contributions.
